Working for yourself?

I won't make this venture out to be some magical dream. I believe I've mentioned before I started with a small budget of $1000. From there I went through legal work and other various prepwork for 3 months. Now things look nice and pretty online (not where I want to be 100%) but the truth is I still haven't broke even, let alone made a profit. Its tough market. I have been eager to share my great clothing with a vast internet audience but the truth is while you can see all your potential customers, they probably can't see you.

I went into this with stars in my eyes thinking I would be a hit from the start. The truth is most days I am up at 6am with a coffee getting work time in before Mr.man wakes up. I check emails, update any new sales codes, do some networking etc.

I am greeted by Mr.man's smiling face around 8am. I dont get back to work until he takes a nap. His nap is usually about two hours, so I take time to take seek out new marketing tools and strategies. I love meeting new people and some are eager to start a business relationship others aren't. I have to take rejection with pride. There are some people who are not able to see my potential yet.

When Mr.man wakes up thats pretty well all the work I can do until he goes to bed. The next time I am able to work is usually from 9 or 10 oclock to 1 in the morning. I sacrifice my sleep, but I am so passionate about what I am doing I truly don't mind.

I have found there are a few things you need to remember when going into business for yourself:

First and foremost find the best version of yourself- the one who has confidence and doesn't take no for an answer. Bring that version of yourself to work everyday. Bring that version on business meetings and have her take phone calls.

Secondly don't become upset by your failures embrace them. A failed idea is a lesson learned. Google Ad words aren't attracting the right customers? Now you know and can try some new ad words. Its money you don't have to waste on something that doesn't work.

Third- Leave your house. Grab a coffee and bring your laptop. Change your scenery. It is a total advantage to working from home. You can pick and chose where to work. I personally work best caffeinated anyway

Fourth- Dress for work everyday, accept "Casual Fridays". This is still your job and you don't want to forget that fact. Bring your A-game every day. If you don't take yourself seriously who will? I do however stand by "Casual Fridays", its OK to come to work in sweats and a tee shirt one day a week. I firmly believe some of my best work has been done on "Casual Fridays".
